I have been drooling over the QNAP TurboNAS devices for a number of months, and have finally decided to bite the bullet and buy one. Despite the significant cost to setup a home NAS, this baby can do everything you could ever imagine!!! With 2Tb setup as RAID 1 (mirrored) network storage and AFP/SMB file sharing support, I'll be able to backup all of our machines (including Mac's using TimeMachine), and store centralized music, movies, and photos. All of that with a very low power consumption no where near what a computer serving this sort of functionality (around 18W while running, 8W when in standby).
