I have a monsoon vulkano lava dvr. It comes with a sd card, but I rather use a 64gb usb stick. It allows you to record live and scheduled tv right from you cable or satelite setop box. it is 1080p. it can record in 1080p, 720 and 480. It can transfer the recorded video's to your pc, android or apple device. It records in either avi or mp4. you can then edit it or play it. I use a network hard drive that I can stream it direct to my tv thru google tv or you can use like a boxee. You are able to stream to your android or iphone over the internet, so you need fast 3g, 4g or a wifi connection. there are no monthly fees and it cost less then 200 dollars. very easy to setup, only draw back is you have to purchase the app for you phone. so like I have a atrix and a iphone, I had to pay for both apps. however I get to download those apps on all my other tablets and ipads. it is a pain in the but, but not everything is free. So with this device you can take the sling box and get rid of it, you can get rid of the dvr fee you pay to tivo or your cable company. If I was to get a sling box that is 200 dollars then to rent the dvr is 15 dollars a month or tivo is 12 dollars a month. so in the first year of owning this I save about 180 dollars. it also does the job of 2 devices.
